In November 2017, Aaron Boone was one of the candidates interviewed to succeed Joe Girardi as manager of the Yankees and won the competition in spite of his lack of any coaching or managerial experience since his retirement. His communication skills and his experience of having played at a high level in the special environment that always gravitates around the team were qualities that set him apart. In both of his first two seasons as Yankees manager, Boone won over 100 games, and in 2019 the team clinched the AL East for the first time since 2012.
